Chasing Churches: Bacarra Church, Ilocos Norte

Bacarra Church is located at Bacarra, Ilocos Norte under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Laoag. It was founded by the Augustinians and dedicate it to St. Andrews. 
It was declared as National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, and a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines.




It is known for it old-centuries domeless leaning bell tower (photo above) or "beheaded" belfry known as Torre ti Bacarra. The original bell tower that is detached from the main church building and is made of coral bricks. But due to periodic earthquakes that hits the place caused the dome to start leaning. The entire dome was toppled by the Luzon earthquake in the year 1983. The tower is also known as the "Acrobatic Bell Tower of Bacarra".
